Happiness can be a whole-body aliveness, a feeling of pleasure, feeling good in your body, or there's the happiness connected with the sense of satisfaction, maybe following some pleasurable experience.
What does it mean to you, to be really happy?
Is it feeling wonderful, with a sense of expectation for the day ahead when you wake up in the morning? Are you happy when you are alone? Is happiness related to achieving your goals? When you get to the end of the day, can you identify something which has made your dreams and goals come a little closer? Do you feel happy most of the time or hardly ever? How do you know whether you are happy?
When you want to achieve something do you prefer to move away from something undesirable? It's useful to know what motivates you. Some people move towards pleasure, others away from pain, and are very successful because of the strength of feeling about what they don't want. For example if you don't want to be unfit as you grow older that may be a very strong internal motivation towards doing regular exercise. The down side of being motivated away from something is that you may be focused on things that you don't want and in general it's good to focus on positive things rather than negative things.
On the other hand do you tend to move towards something desirable? If you are motivated by moving towards something pleasurable and if you know what you want, both now and the future, that will enable you to work towards that goal or those goals and find happiness.
